Making peace with where you are isn’t just about being satisfied and appreciative of what you already have (although that is an amazing thing to feel), it is also essential if you want to create and attract more of what you desire into your life.
Even when everything hasn’t gone to plan, you feel like you are going off track or you just don’t feel like you are achieving everything that you want to achieve, making peace with where you are is one of the most effective ways to make a shift towards where you want to be.
… but as wonderful as it sounds, so many of us can still feel like we are swimming against the tide and resisting that state of inner peace that really has the power to make all the difference – but why is this?
Because we fear being stuck…
The main reason that many of us are afraid to ‘make peace with where we are’ right now is because we are fearful that we will simply just get more of the same that we are experiencing right now – almost like the ‘making peace’ part will get us stuck where we ‘don’t’ want to be with no movement forward.
However, nothing could be further from the truth…
Making peace with where you are can be an amazing catalyst for change – simply because it puts you into a total ‘state of allowing’ by removing all resistance in your ‘now’…. the only moment that you ever have any choice or control over.
It took me some time to get this myself to be honest – I always used to think that by making peace with where I was, meant I would just be stuck where I was forever more, when in reality, it’s the being frustrated, panicked, stressed and unhappy with where we are that keeps us totally stuck.
That continuous sense of ‘not liking where we are’ just keeps our vibration aligned to attracting more of what we don’t want to be stuck with if that makes sense?
Let’s take a few examples to explain what I mean.
Making peace with your body…
Let’s say you are struggling with your weight and desperately want to lose several pounds. Many people think that by making peace with where they are and the extra weight, they will just be stuck with that weight forever when in reality, what is keeping you stuck is that constant focus on ‘being stuck with the weight’ and the fear that you will never lose it. This keeps you in a permanent state of resistance. Your focus will continuously be on ‘what you don’t want’ creating behaviour and action that reinforces ‘what you don’t want’.
Making peace with where you are however means that you can start appreciating your body more as it is right now – even if it is just for your good health, strength and being able to do all the things you need to do each day. Starting to see your body as a wonderful miracle every day instead of a constant source of frustration will quickly change the way you feel about yourself, helping you to choose behaviours and actions that will move you in the direction that you want to go.
See – your body isn’t an unruly rebel out to get you after all, it just needs some love!
Making peace with your money…
How about money – always a biggie for many of us. Let’s say you have some unwanted debt or an overdraft that you are not too happy about and your focus is always on what you hate about it. For instance, every time you spend money or pay some bills, you get this sinking feeling as you are conscious that it is putting you more into your overdraft. It might feel that to make peace with where you are is like saying you are content to have the unwanted debt and to be overdrawn when in fact the opposite is true. Your feelings of dread every time you spend money and constant focus on what you don’t want, is attracting the very thing you fear – never having enough money.
Making peace with where you are means that you choose to let go of the fear more. You can start by appreciating all the wonderful things you have in your life that money has already created. You can appreciate the lessons that having the overdraft or debt has given you. You can start being appreciative of what you are getting in return for your spending, whether it’s something you have chosen to buy or simply having a roof over your head, bills paid and food on the table. You can start writing down a plan of what you need to do and feel good about yourself every time you pay a little more of something off.
Now how different does that feel?
Making peace with your relationships…
Relationships are another big area of focus when it comes to making peace with them. Let’s say your partner isn’t showing the amount of commitment you feel they should be or you are not spending as much time together as you would like. It could be that you start to resent them deep down for not being how you think they should be or you start to create stories in your head that get blown out of proportion. What effect will this be having? Not a great one. Not only are you attracting the very thing you don’t want, you will also have an energy about you that makes your partner uneasy and less likely to want to spend time with you. Vicious circle right?
Making peace with your relationships means that you start to realise that you can’t control other people, only yourself. Making peace means that you start to focus on the qualities you love about that person instead of their flaws and you think more about the fun you will have together when you see each other next. This will not only totally change your energy on a vibrational level, your partner will also feel that shift and enjoy your time together more. Or if you are not in the right relationship, you will start to attract the right one to you.
It’s time to let them and yourself of the hook and simply enjoy the ride!
So apply it to everything…

Making peace with where we are can start to change everything for us, and very quickly. As the resistance to trying to control every little thing through negative emotions drops away, so do all the barriers that keep us from moving towards what we really want.
Does this mean that life will be perfect – absolutely not! Life is supposed to ebb and flow and we are supposed to enjoy contrast in many things, otherwise we would never realise what we want over what we don’t….. but making peace with where you are is going to get you far more of what you do want!
Always remember – the changes that we want will not come to us through a sense of panic, anxiety, frustration or stress, it will just keep everything we want at arms length, whereas making peace with where we are will have the opposite effect. It will just draw more of what we want into our current reality.
So how do you do this when your reality seems very far from what you really want? There is one simple, effective way that will make all the difference and that is:
Through appreciation of what you have right now in any / all areas of your life that feel good. Even appreciation for those areas of your life that don’t feel like they are going so well by finding any part of them to appreciate, maybe for the lessons they have taught you or just appreciating that although not perfect, that everything is moving in the right direction.
So how do we do this? Through conscious purposeful thought that moves us in the right direction, even if it is just for 10-15 minutes each day. This can be achieved through journalling, positive guided visualisations, subliminal tracks, positive videos / audios – anything that will remove that resistance and get us into a better feeling place where we can appreciate just how far we have come and make way for more of the good stuff to flow into us.
